1982毕业于华中农业大学微生物专业;
1988年于英国 John Innes 研究中心获博士学位
1988年起在华中农业大学任教，历任讲师、副教授、教授;
2000年始任上海交通大学教授、博导。
2001-2003 兼美国康乃尔大学客座教授。
国家***科学家, 国家863计划领域专家组成员;
国家自然科学基金委员会生命科学部第四届专家咨询委员会委员和学科评审组成员。
《Chemistry &Biology》,《BMC Microbiology》等数十个国内外刊物编辑或编委。
先后共主持30余项国家级和国际合作项目，已在国内外学术刊物上发表100余篇研究论文。
